posted 07-26-2006 11:17 AM ET (US) I have a ribbed outrage with a 1988 225 Yamaha V6 excel. lately when applying throttle to get on step from idle the motor sputters and then dies. Eventually after a few tries, it starts and accelerates and once the motor is running at crusing speed all is well. This happens quite frequently and would be nice to rectify this problem. would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks

Is this a carbeurated motor? If so, the first place I would look is the diaphragm in the accelerator pump(s). They wear out over time and need to be replaced. When the fail, the symptom is as you have described here. BillS
